Climate Prosperity, Inc. celebrates its first full year as the national intermediary, non-profit 501-c-3 public-purpose organization with the recruitment of Andre N. Pettigrew, the former cabinet head of economic development for Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, as our first Executive Director. We are also pleased to announce that our permanent office in Washington, D.C. has been established at 1429 21st St. NW, Suite 300, in the DuPont Circle area.
Climate Prosperity, Inc., established in June 2009, seeks to advance community and regional efforts to address the challenges of climate change from the perspective of economic development opportunities.
Andre Pettigrew brings several decades of broad-gauged economic development and public policy experience to his new position. In addition to serving as cabinet head of Economic Development and International Trade in the administration of Mayor Hickenlooper since 2007, Andre previously served as Deputy Superintendent and Chief Operating Officer of Denver Public Schools for six years, in the Cabinet of former Colorado Gov. Roy Romer, as an economic developer with the Boulder Chamber of Commerce, and as a venture capitalist and national technical assistance provider.
Launched by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund through a series of retreats at Pocantico Hills in 2007 and evolving into a national nonprofit organization in June 2009, Climate Prosperity, Inc. seeks to demonstrate the viability of its regional economic development strategy by increasing “Green Savings, Green Opportunity, and Green Talent.” Its initial focus has been to establish a national organization and to fund and partner with four Pilot Communities. These communities --- Silicon Valley, CA; St. Louis, MO; Portland, OR; and Denver, CO --- are well along in their regional “greenprint” strategies.
Climate Prosperity, Inc. is governed by a broad-based Board of Trustees and National Advisory Board.

"Green Business" report, published in today's edition of USA Today. A group of regional economic development leaders from across the country are out to prove that climate change represents an economic opportunity for business at the local level. The Climate Prosperity Project, Inc., was funded in 2009 by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund to test the concept. "It is an interesting concept," says Dick Fleming, president of the Climate Prosperity Project Board of Directors and President/CEO of the St. Louis Regional Chamber & Growth Association. "The thing I find absolutely fascinating is that this is as much an economic development opportunity as an environmental imperative. The whole notion that climate prosperity and climate change is an economic development opportunity rather than the reverse." click for more
